Gerd Pfanstiel, born in 1956 in Thuringia, now lives and works in Bad Blankenburg. He has devoted himself intensively to painting since the 1990s. Over the decades, a large number of works have been created in his studio, which deliberately defy classification into any fixed style. Thematically, Pfanstiel’s works cover a wide range: landscapes, nature scenes and portraits of well-known figures are just as much a part of his repertoire as free, colour-rich compositions. Many of his paintings are executed in oil or acrylic and are characterised by an expressive, high-contrast colour palette.
The painter sums up his artistic philosophy simply with the words: “I always do what brings me joy.” This joy in painting is reflected in his works, which speak directly to the viewer and place the power of colour at the centre. Art, says Pfanstiel, should be an experience – a feast for the eyes that stirs emotions and invites the viewer to linger.
The artist’s works have already been presented in numerous exhibitions, including in Berlin, Jena, Weimar, Erfurt, Hamburg and various cities in Thuringia. His works have also been shown internationally in digital exhibitions, for example in Miami, Palma and Zurich.
Since 2020, Gerd Pfanstiel has also been sharing his artistic experience with interested participants through painting and drawing courses, and is committed to promoting art and his philosophy on painting: “A picture has a duty to be a feast for the eyes!”
The exhibition “Quer Beet” at the Kulturfabrik in Langewiesen now offers the opportunity to gain a comprehensive insight into the artist’s diverse body of work. Visitors are warmly invited to the opening on 16 May at 3.00 pm. The exhibition can be viewed during the Kulturfabrik’s opening hours until 31 July 2026.
