The exhibition will give artists the opportunity to present their works in a group exhibition in our rather rural region from April to July 2025. This exhibition not only offers a platform for fine art, but also an opportunity to experience exceptional art in all its facets. A wide variety of works from the fields of oil and acrylic painting, photography, sculptures made of stone, wood and metal as well as excellent paper art will be on display.
The ‘ExplorARTion 2025’ exhibition was curated by Ilmenau-born artist Katharina May. Even in her youth, she showed great interest in art, especially oil painting, and was honoured for her work at school exhibitions. In 2011, she organised her first private exhibition in the USA. She has been working as a freelance artist in Germany since 2020 and has dedicated herself to art full-time since 2024. In addition to her artistic activities, she has been a lecturer at the local adult education centre in children's and adult education since 2022 and leads art projects at schools as well as workshops and courses. Her diverse travels through Europe, Central Africa and the USA have broadened her perspectives and are incorporated into her artistic work.
Art plays a central role in rural areas because it creates spaces for encounters, exchange and inspiration. It strengthens cultural identity, makes regional characteristics visible and offers local people the opportunity to express themselves creatively. Art projects can revitalise vacant places, retain young people and promote social cohesion. Especially in places where cultural offerings are rare, art can open up new perspectives and strengthen the sense of community.
